Isolation and Preparation Work on Water Mains Near the Industrial Park Recently Completed as Part of the BIG Project

PRINCE RUPERT, FEBRUARY 21st, 2025 – The City has received reports from within the community of discoloured water in certain areas over the past day or so and is conducting flushing of fire hydrants in impacted areas to improve colour and the flow of water. This issue is related to the isolation of two existing dead-end sections of water main as part of the preparatory work for the BIG Project. Part of this work also involved valve isolations throughout the east side of town.

If residents experience discolouration, you may also be able to improve localized water quality by running the largest tap in your home (usually a bath tub) for several minutes.

Completion of these recent works are a condition to work towards the removal of the current Boil Water Notice, and the City will be conducting necessary water quality testing as per Northern Health requirements over the coming week to evaluate whether the notice can be lifted.

We thank you for your continued patience and support while major work on our water supply is conducted.
