From May 1st to the 28th this year, the City will be collecting menstrual products on site at our Prince Rupert Recreation Complex (pool side) for donation to the United Way of Northern British Columbia #periodpromise campaign. We're one of multiple other locations participating - including the Northern Savings Credit Union, Mission Health and Wellness, and Safeway. All items collected will be donated to the North Coast Transition Society.
What's this campaign all about? Check out the description from United Way below :
Period poverty is much more common in our community than you would think. Half of all people who menstruate say that they have struggled to purchase products for themselves at some time in their life, and more than a quarter have gone through a period without having any products to support them.
United Way’s Period Promise campaign is committed to changing that and makes it easy for everybody to help out. You can organize a Period Promise campaign to collect donations in your community – in your school, in your workplace or union, or even a socially distanced drop-off with your neighbours.
