Update on City Programming Impacts Relating to COVID-19

Fri, March 13, 2020

The City of Prince Rupert would like to assure the community that although at this time there are no locally confirmed cases, we are implementing protocols within our services and facilities to protect the community from the spread of COVID-19 virus as a precautionary measure. Public health risk will be continually reassessed and City services will be adjusted accordingly should the risk level change.

The following measures are in place:

  • The City has directed staff to enhance cleaning measures within our facilities, and we are also asking our staff as well as residents to observe good hygiene practices (such as regular handwashing and social distancing), as recommended by the local health authorities. (See this video from the BC Centre for Disease Control for additional tips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-KviLbtBq8)
  • March can be a busy time for our customer service area at City Hall. To promote recommended social distancing, residents seeking to pay utility bills and other amounts owing are encouraged to use alternative payment methods to in-person options, such as paying by cheque in the mailslot (delivered to City Hall on or before the due date) or online payment via your financial institution (contact your financial institution for more information). More information on paying utility bills can be found, here:http://princerupert.ca/city_hall/utility_fees
  • In addition, BC Transit has implemented enhanced cleaning measures for their fleet of buses to prevent potential spread via transit.  Their full notice outlining measures that are in place is posted, here: https://www.bctransit.com/prince-rupert/news?nid=1529708446459
