Ambulance Services

Prince Rupert Ambulance Service

The ambulance service in Prince Rupert is provided by the British Columbia Ambulance Service (BCAS) which is a public ambulance service in BC under the authority of the Emergency Health Services Commission of the provincial Ministry of Health.

Up until 1974, emergency pre-hospital medical services were supplied by a number of commercial companies. The competition between these ambulance companies was intense. There were no standards regarding the quality of service and patient care was often an afterthought. On July 1, 1974 BC government legislation created the BCAS. It was formed in response to growing concerns about the conditions then present in the ambulance industry of the day. Over the past three decades, BCAS has evolved into a single unified operation and provided the organizational structure necessary for efficient, effective and quality care.

BCAS Mission Statement: to provide timely and high quality emergency medical services.

We do this by:

  • caring for and about our patients and staff;
  • providing creative solutions for changing health care needs;
  • collaborating with our partners in the health care system and the community as a whole.
