We are excited to announce that the Provincial paving program to repave Highway 16 (from McBride Street, down 2nd Avenue to the Ferry Terminal), and the City’s corresponding work to repave the 3rd Avenue roadway (downtown) will commence May 1st and carry through to June 30th. The paving will be conducted in the evenings from 7 pm to 7 am, and will produce significant noise in the targeted areas of construction as it moves through the city. Timing of the paving was scheduled to have the least possible disruption to local traffic patterns, however we do understand that associated noise may inconvenience our residents living downtown and along the Highway.
This work will repave the road surface from ‘curb to curb’ and so crews will require the roadway to be fully clear of cars in the evenings while paving is underway. Signs will be posted clearly indicating when parking is not permitted in areas under construction. We respectfully request, to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of paving activities, that all residents obey the no parking signage. Any one violating the no parking signs will be towed at the owner’s expense. Towed vehicles will be relocated immediately to the North end of the Civic Centre parking lot for pick up by the registered owner. We thank you for your patience while we make these major community improvements to “Rebuild Rupert”, and again, apologize for the inconvenience. We, like you, are looking forward to seeing some fresh new pavement.
