City Launches Online Engagement Platform

The City of Prince Rupert is providing a new option to residents to provide feedback to their municipal government online. A new engagement portal has been launched at, which will help the City collect information from the public to help inform public policy and decision making.

To start with, the platform will have surveys and information available regarding downtown revitalization, emergency preparedness, the 2019 budget, recreation services, and current applications for Cannabis Retail locations in Prince Rupert. As an incentive to complete the surveys, all those who register in the next 60 days will be entered to win a draw for a $100 grocery gift card. A community-wide mailout will be going out this week to advertise the new platform to residents.

“We know that our residents look online more and more for information and to engage,” said Mayor Lee Brain. “We want this new site to be a one stop shop for the community to get information on upcoming City initiatives and priorities, and provide valuable feedback.”

These consultations won’t replace the City’s official consultation processes that are required by the Local Government Act and Community Charter, or face to face communications, but will help us to supplement how information is collected.

Eighty per cent of the cost of the project is covered by a grant provided by the BC Smart Communities Pilot funding program, with the remaining costs included in the City’s communication budget. Smart communities (also known as “smart cities”) are communities that use connected technology and data to improve municipal services and infrastructure. This provincial funding stream was developed in order to support adoption of ‘smart’ technology on a municipal level, and the City of Prince Rupert is grateful to be selected as a recipient for funds.
