Updated September 8th
Thanks to the hard work of crews over the weekend, the work at the intersection of Fulton and 6th is near finished for the season, and is being prepared for paving today. Local traffic will be allowed through the intersection, however others are asked to avoid it if all possible via the posted detours on the map below. Please obey all posted traffic signage and controllers, and thanks again to to everyone involved for giving up their long weekend!
Be advised that the intersection of 6th Avenue West and Fulton Street will see major traffic disruptions over the course of the next month or more while underground repairs are conducted and repaving completed.
These repairs are required primarily to the water main in this area, but also to storm and sewer infrastructure as needed. The repairs that will be done in the coming month will be temporary in nature, as substantial redesigning of all underground infrastructure will be needed to complete this project. After investigative digging, City staff discovered unknown dilapidated overlapping underground infrastructure in this area, making the work extremely complex. City Staff has decided to make the temporary repair and readdress with a proper detailed design in the future.
To start with, there will be single lane traffic only through the intersection, and a closure of Fulton Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. Note that a full closure of the intersection and broader traffic rerouting is likely to be eventually required. Please obey all posted traffic signage and controllers, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. See the map below for additional information on the current revised traffic pattern.
